First things first, there used to be a lot of concern about getting your laptop power cord from the same manufacturer as your laptop, that somehow you’ll damage your laptop if you don’t, that’s just not the case anymore. The best place to find out the wattage you need is to look on the back of your current power cord or owners manual of your notebook.
As far as we’re concerned, the best option is to pick up a refurbished laptop power cord. As we’ve mentioned many times on this site, refurbished power cords are just as good as originals in most cases. Many retailers even still carry the manufacture’s warranty on the power cord. We’ve seen refurbished hp laptop power cords for as low as $10 on some sites so it pays to look around. One GREAT option, especially if you’re looking ONLY FOR the CORD part of the power supply, is a local computer repair shop. Many local businesses sale off all their depreciated equipment and you may be able to pickup just the cord section (that uses the smart pin to plug into the actual power supply) for little or nothing.
